Lessons from Ten Years of Service

1. What the past 10 years of Clean Start Africa mean to me
The past 10 years of Clean Start Africa represent a second chance especially for formerly imprisoned women like myself. It means restoration of dignity, rebuilding of lives, and finding a true sense of sisterhood. It is a space where brokenness is not the end of the story, but the beginning of transformation.
2. A high moment that stands out in my experience
One of the most powerful highlights for me has been the *Beyond the Bar Conference*, which brings together formerly imprisoned women from across Kenya. It is a moment of unity, healing, and shared strength. Another deeply meaningful experience has been going back into prisons as trainers, delivering the Ufunuo program to our incarcerated sisters—reminding them that hope and change are possible.
3. A low or challenging moment that shaped my journey
One of the most painful challenges has been losing some of our women to depression. Many struggle with the inability to provide for their children, coupled with stigma and rejection from society. These losses have been heartbreaking and serve as a reminder of the urgent need for continued support, compassion, and opportunity.
4. What I am most excited and hopeful about for the next decade
Looking ahead, I am filled with hope for a future where champions rise from brokenness—where formerly imprisoned women transform their pain into purpose. I am excited to see more women empowered, restored, and leading lives that inspire others, proving that no story is beyond redemption.
